AUSTRALIAN DEVELOPER GAMESAREPHON ANNOUNCES NEW SATIRICAL BOARD GAME, SCARY GAME XIII, RELEASING JULY 21ST
Work with your friends to help each other escape the Haunted Manor of Piney Lake (or hunt them all down) in multiplayer mayhem!
June 7th, 2016 - When four hapless teenagers suddenly find themselves sealed inside of a haunted manor, they must pool their efforts to discover a way out, all the while eluding the Ghost and its insidious Thrall (who masquerades as a member of their group!) in Scary Game XIII - the new turn-based, multiplayer board game created by GamesArePhon and slated for release in Australia on July 20th.
In Scary Game XIII, players are allowed a set number of Action Points per turn - these can be used to perform various actions within the haunted manor, such as moving through hallways, attacking other players or investigating rooms. During play, players will need to plan ahead and develop ingenious strategies - spending or conserving Action Points as needed in order to eventually accomplish their respective character’s goals.
The Teenagers: You and three friends can each play as one of four teenagers - The Nerd, The Jock, The Blonde or The Religious - and investigate the manor in search of the Charmed Talismans needed to break the seal and escape the manor! Each teenager possesses a different set of abilities that place his or her strengths and weaknesses in certain types of actions, such as investigating, moving or attacking.
The Ghost: The Ghost cannot move as far as the teenagers can but has some truly terrifying abilities - you can scare your friends, possess their characters for a turn and even phase them through walls to stunt their progress! Use these abilities to eliminate all of the teenagers before they can escape the manor (or as many as you can)!
The Thrall: Little does our party of hapless teenagers know - one of them is a traitor in league with the Ghost! Work from the inside to sabotage and eventually eliminate your friends before they can escape the manor (or as many as you can). Just take care not to reveal your identity to the other teenagers!
Recently, GamesArePhon has become increasingly known for creating satirical games that parody popular themes and tropes of film, television and gaming. ‘After the commercial successes of Code R.O.A.S.T and Secret Noodle Man, we felt secure in producing a third board game, this time sending up the ‘haunted house’ motif - a staple of the entertainment industry’, said John Smith, Head of Sales and Marketing for GamesArePhon.
For a limited time only, those who preorders their copy of Scary Game XIII through participating retailers will, upon release, receive a free card for bonus character, Huge The Vaudevillain*. Though not as bright or strong as the other teenagers, Hugo can dance himself out of almost spectral pickle and moves further than most characters can in a single turn!
Scary Game XIII is intended for three-to-five players (ages 13 and older) and takes approximately 30-60 minutes to play. It includes five Character Ability cards (Blonde, Jock, Nerd, Religious, Ghost), one Player board, one Ghost board, one Ghost screen, 10 Posession cards, four Allegiance cards (one ‘Thrall’, three ‘Teenager’), 15 Item cards, five Player markers, four Health markers, six Investigation dice and one Rule Booklet.
Challenge your friends to a ghoulish test of trust, strategy and deviousness, as GamesArePhon’s Scary Game XIII launches in Australia on July 20th, available at all board game retailers for the RRP of AU$60.
