April 21, 2016 - Hollywood actors Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie have arrived in Singapore to promote their latest film, Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War.

The trio – who play superheroes Captain America, Winter Soldier and Falcon respectively – will join Co-Director Joe Russo in fronting promotional events at Marina Bay Sands today and again tomorrow.

Evans, Stan and Mackie will walk the blue carpet at the Marina Bay Sands’ skating rink at 8pm tonight, meeting fans before attending the film’s Southeast Asian premiere at the MasterCard Theatres.

The events have attracted Marvel fans from across the Asia-Pacific region.

Student George Uy, 27, flew home from Perth especially for the premiere and said that to secure a spot close to the blue carpet, he’s waited at the skating rink since 8am, while others ‘must have arrived even earlier.’

Evans, Stan and Mackie will greet fans along the Helix Bridge tomorrow night, where they will trigger a Captain America-themed light and fireworks show in Marina Bay.

The show is intended as an ‘official response’ to a similar display in Paris; earlier this week, Robert Downey Jr lit up the Eiffel Tower in the colours of Iron Man - the superhero he portrays in the film.

Speaking this morning at a press conference, Evans said ‘I saw what Downey did in Paris…it was great, but I think we can do something special here in Singapore to show him that it’s all about Team Cap.’

The stars hoped to sample some local food and culture during their stay. ‘We like to get to know the culture that we’re in; learning stuff about the people, eating stingray, chilli crab and learning “yes, lah” or “no, lah”’, said Mackie.

From today until Sunday, fans can also visit the Captain America: Civil War Festival at the Event Plaza on Marina Bay Sands’ Promenade, where they can purchase exclusive merchandise and participate in several Marvel-themed activities.

‘We are excited to host Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War Festival in partnership with Disney and the Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention and look forward to welcoming the stars and fans from around the region’, said Carrie Kwik, Executive Director of Arts, Entertainment and Integrated Resorts from the Singapore Tourism Board.

In a statement released by Marina Bay Sands, President and Chief Executive Officer George Tanasijevich said Marina Bay Sands continues to be a venue hosting ‘high-profile’ red carpet events and international celebrities.

‘As Singapore becomes the location of choice for movie premieres and Hollywood film shoots, Marina Bay Sands hopes to take the red carpet experience to new heights, showcasing the Republic as a world-class entertainment hub.’

Following their time here, Evans, Stan, Mackie and Russo will fly to London and join the rest of the cast for the film’s European premiere.

Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War pits a team of superheroes led by Captain America (Evans) against another led by Iron Man (Downey Jr) as the two clash over superhero registration following the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).

The film opens on Thursday.
